The Morimoto XB LED headlights are already at the highest level in terms of aftermarket headlight upgrades. They perform like a stock factory LED equipped headlight, only much better. I honestly can't think of anything we could do to make them perform better; but that doesn't mean we can't make some visual changes. Now I havent been the type to do RGB/RGBW anything on any of my own cars, but I thought that some amber demon eyes that run along side of the amber DRL strip would look absolutely killer.
The headlights were already being opened up to install the clear side markers. The Gen 2 lights came out with more features such as the Bugatti style start up sequence, and triple bi-led projectors, and sadly amber side markers. Morimoto did this for compliance reasons. We were told clear side markers would be available to the general public for the users that wished to swap them in themselves. Pleas understand you void your warranty with Morimoto, but lets face it; it looks so much cleaner!
So why did I chose the Diode Dynamics RGBW Pro-Series Demon eyes? The first and foremost reason was the fact that the app will always revert back to the last color setting used. Which means I can interrupt the power to the controller over and over, and it will revert back to amber. This is great because if I chose to, I can allow these to turn on with the car's switched power source, and they can run along side the amber DRL's. If I get bored of that, all I have to do is go into the app on my phone, and change the color easily. The second reason was because Diode Dynamics was able to produce a custom driver for my needs. I wanted 1 driver per headlight which makes things a lot easier and cleaner than running 3 drivers per headlight.
Once I had the lights opened up, I realized the Pro-Series demon eyes were just perfect for this proposed custom add on. Each bi-led projector had a small opening at the top of it, which matched up perfectly to the size of the LED chip set on the demon eyes. The demon eyes were fixed into position using tape, then JB Weld epoxy was used to secure them down. We cured these in the oven for about 20 mins and you can consider it fully bonded. The wiring was ran out the bottom of the assemblies through a "D2S Seal" and gaps were siliconed to prevent any moisture or water getting through. Running the wiring out the bottom of the housing already reduces any changes water will get in, but just to be safe right!
Once I got this back onto the car, I had zero regrets. It exceeds any expectations I had set aside for how this would turn out. If you are interested in having Lightwerkz customize your XB LED headlights, please reach out to us directly!
