Installed the kit yesterday. Havent driven with it yet but I will report on that later. Very familiar with DIY suspension installations, but never on a truck. Overall the installation process is very straight forward on the 4Runner If you have basic tools and consider yourself handy.
I watched the video Westcott has on their YouTube a few times. Keep in mind while the process is the same they are showing the 2020 kit, not the 2021. There is no mention of the bump stop spacer but I sort of figured that out. Just need a large plier to loosen the bump stop and add it to the front.
Keep in mind that your standard type of spring compressors do not work properly. The shaft on the Fox shocks is very thick and it would bind up against edges of spring compressor. Google the "no spring compressor method" (wish I had found out about that earlier) or bring to local mechanic with one of those wall mounted compressors.
So once I got back with the assembled struts I noticed one of the perches was sitting much lower than the other one. I couldn't wrap my head around it and figured I installed something wrong. Brought it back to the mechanic that had the spring compressor and we took it all apart to find that the passenger side shock has the collar where the perch sits that is lower, by design. First time I have ever seen anything like this but Westcott assured me this is completely normal. It turns out the drivers side strut has extra preload built into the height of the perch to accommodate for the weight of the gas tank and the driver. This way you dont have a loop sided 4Runner!
Everything else went smooth!
The kit is very high quality and does look OEM. I am looking forward to a firmed up ride.
